Caldwell Academy’s Academic Resource Center (ARC) is committed to providing academic support to promote success for all of our students as they pursue a classical and Christian education. We provide services that address and support the individual, as well as classroom strategies to help students in the learning process. While Caldwell does not specialize in particular learning differences, we can provide support services to address certain learning needs. Our learning specialists work in conjunction with the principals and classroom teachers to help students reach their full academic potential.
The Academic Resource Center reflects Caldwell Academy’s commitment to supporting and challenging students. The ARC offers a wide range of support services to meet the various learning needs of our students. The ARC director and learning specialists collaborate with the principals, deans, and teachers in each division to coordinate and deliver support services to our students.
Our team of learning specialists delivers support within their respective divisions by offering small-group programs and one-on-one meetings. Additionally, they are responsible for crafting Learning Plans for students who have a documented learning difference. These learning plans are formulated using data obtained from psychoeducational assessments and medical documents. They are then shared with the student’s teachers to foster a deeper understanding of a student’s unique learning profile, along with accommodations to assist with classroom instruction. Furthermore, our Learning Specialists provide consultative services to families, teachers, and administrators in the areas of learning differences and how to best meet the needs of our student population.
Our ARC team is eager to work with students individually as well as in a whole group setting to support classroom instruction by assisting students with such tasks as agenda usage, project management, organizing materials, and managing their time effectively. Weekly “study support” groups and check-in/check-outs are offered to assist students who need additional academic support, accountability, and organizational support during the academic day. The ARC also collaborates with students to cultivate the vital skills of self-advocacy, essential for success at Caldwell Academy and future endeavors.
The Academic Resource Center at Caldwell Academy offers personalized tutoring by both adult and peer tutors for various subjects and provides one-on-one academic coaching to help students with challenges related to organization, study skills, and time management. These services are provided before and after school for an additional fee. Coaches, tutors and learning specialists are available to assist students with such tasks as agenda usage, project management, organizing materials, and managing their time effectively.
The Grammar Learning Specialist offers targeted interventions in small groups for students who have documented needs as determined by various sources such as classroom assessments, data, and observations. Many times, interventions can take place during the regular school day and are tailored to the differentiation strategies used in the classroom; however, for more intense remediation or specialized tutoring, services outside of the school day can be arranged to avoid missing valuable classroom instruction. Currently, reading differentiation for grades K-3 is being implemented in the lower school, and during this time, the Grammar Learning Specialist is available to work with students. Additionally, the Grammar Learning Specialist is available for individualized support during morning office hours for 4th and 5th grade students with learning plans. Our Eagle Time After-School Homework Assistance Program is offered three days a week for students in grades 2nd-5th who have established learning plans.
The Dialectic and Rhetoric Learning Specialist offers an array of services to support students in their academic and emotional well-being. Our specialist provides academic coaching to students who are encountering challenges in their studies, mental health education/consultation to those in need of emotional or social support, on-going collaboration with parents and teachers to aid student support, and whole-group class instruction on research-based mental health and academic material. Oversight and management of students on learning plans and ongoing coordination of assessment data to provide year-to-year follow through is also provided for those with learning difficulties. The Dialectic and Rhetoric Learning Specialist also manages and facilitates separate-setting and extended time testing accommodations in our Academic Resource Center.
Speech and language skills are used in every part of learning; therefore, we are committed to providing these services on our campus to assist our younger students with these fundamental skills. For an additional fee, speech therapy services are offered on campus before and after school by our contract licensed speech and language pathologists.
Students with identified learning differences can receive classroom and testing accommodations at Caldwell Academy that do not fundamentally change the school’s mission. The ARC team, in collaboration with the administrative team, are responsible for making the decisions regarding the appropriateness of the accommodations used at Caldwell to ensure these accommodations are in alignment with the school’s mission and are also compatible with our existing structure of support.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
